EnBW AG (Energie Baden-Württemberg AG) is one of the largest energy supply companies in Germany and Europe. EnBW is looking back at a history of over a century. It is a publicly owned, in fact a community-owned company, with a workforce of around 21,000 employees. As a fully integrated energy company, EnBW Group operates along the entire value chain, from generation and trading, to renewable energies, grid operations and sales.
In 2013, EnBW embarked on a radical reorganization, in response to the fundamental changes brought about by the German Energiewende (“energy transition”). We realigned our company under the motto: “Energiewende. Sicher. Machen.” (“Energy Transition. Safe. Hands on.”) As part of our strategic repositioning, we have resolutely adapted to both deteriorating market conditions and long-term technological trends and challenges. Against the background of the phasing out of nuclear power and increasing decarbonization, EnBW is expanding renewable energies to make them one of the main pillars of our business by 2020.
In addition to our core market of Germany, EnBW is actively seeking opportunities to selectively add projects in currently developing and emerging growth markets around the world with ambitious expansion targets. EnBW has developed business units not only in Germany, but also in Northern Europe, France, Turkey, USA and Asia Pacific. The main focus of our activities in these regions will initially be in developing projects up to the stage where they are ready for construction.
